Karawang, W Java (ANTARA News) - Several hundred houses in two hamlets of Cemarajaya village, Cibuaya subdistrict, Karawang district, West Java, were inundated by seawater on Tuesday.

Besides submerging lots of houses in the two hamlets, tens of other houses there were damaged by the seawater due to high tide, Head of Cemarajaya village Yong Lim Supardi said.

"The flooded and damaged houses are located near the beach," he said.

Rescue workers prioritized the evacuation of children and old people from the seawater flooding, he said, adding that the people also moved their valuable belongings and furniture to higher places.

"We evacuate those living near and on the bank of the beach," Yong Lim Supardi said.
The seawater also inundated parts of the village`s roads. (*)
