Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The central executive board of the Indonesian Islamic Student Movement (PMII) and "Hidayatullah.com" editorial department have finally reached a peaceful agreement regarding the online media`s controversial news item.

The news story that the PMII executive board members earlier protested was titled "From PMII to Jews" that it published on January 6, 2011, the Hidayatullah.com`s executive editor, Cholis Akbar said.

As revealed in his press statement made available to ANTARA here Tuesday, Akbar said he had met with the PMII spokesman Khusen Yusuf in the East Java capital city, Surabaya,on Tuesday morning.

At the meeting, both parties agreed on a peaceful resolution in which the Hidayatullah.com had pledged to kill its news item, to express its apology and release clarifying news item to various media in the country.

In return, PMII should have regarded this case resolved. But the university student wing of the country`s strongest Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) expected that there was no more such this case in the future.

"As the gesture of our goodwill, we have killed the news story in response to the PMII letter," Cholis Akbar said.

He further expressed his media`s apology, saying that the peaceful solution was meant to maintain good relationship and Islamic brotherhood with the PMII.

The PMII spokesman Khusen Yusuf said his organization did hold the values of Islamic brotherhood and nationhood.

"We hope the same case will never happen again in the future," said the PMII activist, who is currently doing a masters program at the University of Indonesia.

Following the meeting, both parties respected their agreement, and there would never be such a similar news item that could potentially damage the PMII`s image, he said.

Before the peaceful solution was reached, the PMII executive board members would have reported the Hidayatullah.com to Indonesia`s press council.

The Hidayatullah.com`s protested news had potentially damaged the images of PMII, NU, and former president Abdurrahman Wahid alias Gus Dur (late). (*)
