Merak, Banten (ANTARA News) - A National Search and Rescue (Basarnas) teams is still searching for missing victims of the KMP Laut Teduh II Ferry fire that happened in the Sunda Strait on Friday.

"We are conducting the search in areas off the Anyer beach and the site of the accident as some victims are still missing," Basranas head Sipranida said here Saturday.

He said the search was focused off Anyer Beach and around Temperung Island.

The search and rescue team consisted of two groups.

The first group comprised of 20 personnel was searching around the location of the accident and the second team consisting 10 personnel was scouring the sea off the Merak and Anyer beaches.

The team on board several tug boats was still searching for the missing victims as there were reports of missing ferry passengers from the River and Lake Transportation Company of Merak.

The search and rescue operation was conducted within a five-mile radius around the accident site.

However, bad weather was hampering the operation so that the team could not do its job optimally. (*)
