Dubai (ANTARA News) - Indonesia has asked Switzerland to help regain assets connected to Bank Century bailout believed to be kept in a Swiss bank.

The request had been made by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in a recent meeting with the president of the Swiss Confederation in Davos, Yudhoyono said during a transit in Dubai en route to Jakarta from Zurich, Switzerland, early Sunday.

"First, in the meeting with the president of the Swiss Confederation in Davos, I raised the issue of the need to establish cooperation between Indonesia and Switzerland in recovering the assets believed to be kept in Switzerland partly," the head of state said.

The Bank Century assets must be regained and it should be the task of all parties including the government, he said.

The latest report from the integrated team on Bank Century asset recovery indicated that cooperation with Switzerland had not been running well in that matter, and there was even an impression that the European country was less cooperative, he said.

Based on the report, the president had held a meeting with the Swiss Confederation president on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos recently.

"The Swiss President explained that they wanted to be cooperative but they needed necessary legal documents to process it. Therefore I have told the Swiss President that the Indonesian team would return to give the needed documents. Hopefully we could establish good cooperation, and we have also asked the World Bank assistance, as we have agreed to cooperate in stolen asset recovery," he said.

Indonesia was seriously trying to eradicate corruption and international cooperation was necessary, he said.

"Next, when we arrive home, we will follow up the talks with the Swiss President in Davos yesterday," he said.(*)
