Jakarta (ANTARA News) - A few hundred people grouped in the Islamic People`s Forum (FUI) staged a demonstration at the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle in Central Jakarta demanding the disbandment of Ahmadiyah.

"The masses staged the demonstration after Friday`s prayers at 2 pm," chairman of the Jakarta Islamic Defenders Front Habin Salim Alatas said here Friday.

Salim said the Islamic masses were merely demanding the disbandment of the Ahmadiyah teachings which had caused great confusion to Islamic people.

Nevertheless, Salim guaranteed that the FPI members would not attack any places of worship or Ahmadiyah followers in Jakarta.

"We have made a consolidation with our members and leave the Ahmadiyah case to the police," Salim said.

In the meantime, chief spokesman for the Jakarta Police Headquarters Senior Commissioner Baharudin Djafar said he fielded 1,500 police personnel to secure the FUI masses in the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle.
