"Incessant heavy rains which have fallen since Saturday (Feb. 26) until early Monday (Feb. 28) have caused the flood inundating tens of houses in Pasa Durian Manggopoh, Lubung Basung sub district, Agam District," Is Faimal, a local official, said here Monday.
The downpours have also caused Batang Antokan River located in Pasa Durina to overflow, he said.
"The river has started to overflow on Sunday at around 11.30 pm, and continued until early Monday," he said.
The floodwaters reaching a height of up around 50 cm submerged tens of houses in the village. The flood victims were forced to evacuate themselves nearby schools and mosques.
Pasa Durian is inhabited by about 83 families.
Meanwhile, in northern Sumatra Island of Aceh Darussalam Province, flash floods triggered by heavy rains since Friday (Feb. 25), had hit seven villages in Teunom sub districts, Aceh Jaya District.
Students were forced to stay at home because their schools were also flooded, he said.
The seven affected villages are Gampong Baro, Paya Baro, Pasie Delima, Pasie Timoe, Tepie Ara, Pasti Tolak Bala, and Gampong Paya.
The inundated schools are State Junior High School-4 Teunom and State Elementary School Tepin Hasan.
During 2010, Teunom Sub District had been flooded for at least six times.
In Bali Province, floods had inundated 475 houses in three villages of Gerokgak subdistrict, Buleleng district, last Tuesday and Wednesday (Feb. 22 and 23).
The three villages were Tinga-Tinga, Celukan Bawang, and Pengulon, Head of Buleleng district`s disaster management division, Nyoman Astasemadi, said.
