Silat Hilir, W Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - PT Paramitra Internusa Pratama, a subsidiary of oil palm plantation company Sinar Mas Group, has constructed a clean water infrastructure in West Kalimantan`s Kapuas Hulu district, a spokesman said.

"The private company has assisted the Kapuas Hulu district administration which has a limited budget," said AM Nasir, the Kapuas Hulu district head here Tuesday.

In addition, Silat Hilir sub-district chief M Jumran said, before the plantations company built the clean water infrastructure, most people in Sentabai hamlet had to walk about three kilometers to get fresh water from ground wells.

Jumran also expressed hope that the oil palm plantations could employ many of the local people in a bid to help them improve their welfare.

Meanwhile, the West Kalimantan Sinar Mas group top leader, Susanto expressed his company`s seriousness to develop oil palm plantations in order to improve the Kapuas Hulu people`s economy aside from seeking profit.

Previously, Susanto expressed thanks giving to the district administration and its people because the company could develop the plantations area, reaching about 10 thousand hectares in three districts thanks to the local administration and the people`s help.(*)
