Yogyakarta (ANTARA News) - Three residents living in several sub-districts of Yogyakarta had died of leptospirosis from January to the middle of March, but four others had been cured, a local health official said.

Head of the Yogyakarta disease eradication and environmental health of the Yogyakarta health service Fita Yulia said here Thursday those who had died were living in the sub-districts of Kotagede, Mergangsan and Umbulharjo bordering with other regencies in the province.

They died of an infectious disease caused by bacteria of the Genus "Leptospira" transmitted to humans by contact with rodents, dogs and other mammals, and is characterized by fever and even jaundice and or meningitis.(*)
