Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Thirteen people were reported to have been killed following flashfloods in Paniai, Papua.

"According to latest reports 13 people have died because of the floods," head of information and public relations of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, said to ANTARA here on Friday.

He said around 34,000 live in Agadide and Ekadide Districts in Paniai that had been swept by the floods.

"Now some of the people in the two districts have evacuated to the higher locations," he said.

He said the first flood happened on March 17 and another flood came on Thursday (March 31).

Until now BNPB is still collecting information from the local government and local chapters of BNPB with regard to the impact of the disaster.

He said BNPB would immediately take emergency response actions to deal with the disaster.
