Batam, Riau Islands (ANTARA News) - A bolt of lightning struck the electricity transmission network of State Electricity Company (PLN) in Batam on Monday causing a total blackout on the island.

According to a spokesperson of the electricity company, Lutfi Nazi, the bolt of lighting had hit the 150 KV Baloi-Sei Harapan transmission network.

"The happening caused a disruption in the electricity supply in the whole Batam region," Lutfi said here Monday.

The company`s engineers were still trying to fix the problem and restore the electricity supply to costumers, Lutfi said.

"We apologize for the disruption as it was beyond our control. However, we are working to restore the electricity supply to the costumers," Lutfi said.

The company would also investigate and evaluate the incident to minimize the impact of lightning strikes on their networks in the future.

However, the electricity supply was restored to some areas in Batam, while other areas are still in blackout.

The electricity in Tiban was restored at 11.00 p.m before going off again at 12.00. p.m local time on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the electricity supply in Bengkong was restored at 01.00 a.m. on Monday.
