Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government will impose an import duty on rice at Rp450 per kilogram as of April 1, 2011 to support domestic price stability, finance ministry spokesman Yudi Pramadi said here on Thursday.

"The regulation is made in the framework of stabilizing domestic rice price as well as to give certainty regarding the import tariffs for rice and rice flour," he said in a press statement.

Based on the finance minister`s regulation as of April 2, 2011 import duty for rice and rice flour will change from Rp0/kilogram to Rp450/kilogram, he said.

The government imposed an import duty for rice at Rp0/kilogram from December 2010 until March 31, 2011 to support domestic price stability.(*)
