Malang (ANTARA News) - Air Force Chief of Staff Marshal Imam Syufaat said that an investigation into the recent plane accident in Yogyakarta was still underway.

The Air Force headquarters is conducting the investigation, Marshal Imam Syufaat said here Friday when making a working visit at Abdurachman Saleh air force base.

According to initial reports received by the Air Force headquarters, the plane crash was caused by a technical factor. However, considering the fact the plane`s crew had very good experiences, an investigation was deemed necessary to determine the cause of the accident, he said.

"The instructor had excellent quality, but something had gone wrong," he said.

The internal team of the Air Force headquarters is running the investigation without involving other parties such as the Transportation Safety National Committee (KNKT).

Meanwhile, Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro earlier ordered an intensive investigation into the glider plane accident which killed two people in Yogyakarta Thursday (April 28).

"A technical team will conduct the investigation, and I have ordered to carry it out carefully," Minister Purnomo said after kicking off the ASEAN Defense Senior Officials Meeting (ADSOM) Plus in Yogyakarta Friday.

The investigation will find out whether it was caused by human error or a technical factor.

Two people on the training flight were killed when their glider plane crashed in Yogyakarta province, Thursday. The dead victims were first sergeant Ninang dan sergeant Karbol Habibur Rahman. Ninang was the flight instructor, while Karbol Habibur Rahman was the trainee.

The trainer aircraft crashed on a sugar cane plantation near Adisutjipto airbase in Wotgaleh village, Berbah subdistrict, Sleman district, Yogyakarta, at 3.45 pm local time.
