Purwokerto, C Java (ANTARA News) - Tens of students from different student organizations in Purwokerto, Central Java, staged a rally here on Sunday to mark Labor Day or May Day.

In the rally held on Jl Soedirman south of Purwokerto Square, the students grouped in the People`s Struggle Front (FPR) asked the Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono-Boediono administration to meet their pledge made at the Bung Karno Stadium on July 4, 2009.

"The Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono-Boediono administration`s pledge to create more jobs, increase economic growth, evenly distribute access to education, improve the people`s welfare, and build a clean government is far from reality," the rally`s coordinator, Widianto, said.

Therefore, he added that the students through the momentum of Labor Day called for fair wages for workers according to the fair standard of living, elimination of labor outsourcing, and protection of migrant workers.

"Workers have been deprived of ownership access to production tools so they sell their services to capital owners for wages. Therefore, wages can be called the price of labor," he said.

In the tightly-guarded rally, the students released a number of balloons of all kinds of colors as a symbol of workers` freedom. They later dispersed peacefully.(*)
