Cairo, May (ANTARA News/RIA Novosti-OANA) - Egypt`s ailing ex-leader Hosni Mubarak is in stable condition but he is suffering from depression, a chief physician of the Sharm el-Sheikh international hospital told Al-Ahram weekly.

Doctor says that although Mubarak has been suffering from depression for three days now, he flatly rejected any inspection by psychotherapists.

Other sources in hospital`s medical personnel say that Mubarak significantly lost weight since he was hospitalized, adding that it is very dangerous for his transfer to Mazra`a hospital in Torah prison.

A week ago Egypt`s public prosecutor ordered the transfer of Mubarak to a prison hospital in the capital Cairo, ahead of questioning over corruption and abuse allegations.

Mubarak, 82, is being investigated over the deaths of hundreds of protesters during the 18-day popular uprising that forced him from power in February.

He is also under scrutiny for alleged abuse of power during his 30-year rule, including gas exports to Israel at a low price in a secretive deal that cost Egypt $714 million.

Mubarak has been under detention in a hospital in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, where he has been treated for heart problems. The former leader has been holed up in the city since his ouster.(*)
