Garut, West Java (ANTARA News) - Four people have been found dead while ten others are still went missing on Saturday following flash floods after heavy rains in Garut, West Java.

"They died after being buried by landslides while ten people are still being searched for," Garut`s Cikelet sub-district head Rosyidin said here on Saturday.

Yuningsih (32), Yoga (17), Heri (12) and Ihsan (15 months) died after being buried in a landslide caused by flooding in Cagadog village, Cikelet.

"Four people have been reported dead until Saturday afternoon but until now we still do not know if the number will still increase as search is still ongoing to find ten people," he said.

He said three villages namely Cigadog, Cijambe and Cikelett were the hardest hit by the flood.

He said thousand houses had been submerged while 25 others had been swept away by the flood.

"We are still making an inventory. Some have been damaged and others being swept away," he said.

The flood started to subside on Saturday afternoon and many families have been evacuated to their relatives` houses.

"The flood has subsided and the villagers have all been evacuated as they could not stay in their houses," he said.

One man meanwhile had been reported missing following a flood in Pameungpeuk subdistrict.

Thousand houses and rice fields meanwhile had been submerged in Cibalong sub-district.

Military and police personnel as well as other rescuers still continued evacuating victims and searching the missing people.(*)
