Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian community in Oklahoma City and surroundings, with the support of the Indonesian Consulate General in Houston, promoted Indonesia at the Asian Festival 2011 in Oklahoma City, the United States, on Saturday (May 14).

The Indonesian booth at the festival displayed handicrafts, traditional dresses, pictures, brochures and posters on Indonesia, Indonesian Consul General in Houstan Al Busyra Basnur said in a press statement on Monday.

The Asian Festival was organized by the Asia Society of Oklahoma and participated by Indonesia, China, India, Japan, Iran, Korea, Laos, the Philippines, and Vietnam.

The Festival was highlighted with a Miss Asia competition.

Ira Simbolon Burrough, the president of the Indonesia-American Association of Oklahoma and public relations coordinator for the festival, said Indonesia`s participation in the festival was to promote the country in the US.

Indonesia`s booth was visited by many people, and some of them said they wanted to go to Indonesia next time.

Consul General Basnur was also present in the Indonesian booth, which opened a consulate desk to serve Indonesians needed to settle their consulate papers.

Some Indonesian nationals benefiting the consulate desk, said they were happy because they did not have to go to Houston nor send their documents by mails to Houston for their papers to be done.

In the evening, Consul General Al Busyra Basnur and his wife, Wenny Basnur, hosted a dinner reception which was attended by around 60 guests.

He appreciated the active participation of the Indonesian nationals in the Asian Festival 2011 in Oklahoma City.

Basnur called on the Indonesians to further promote Indonesia in order to strengthen the bilateral relations between Indonesia and the United States of America, in particular through the people-to-people contact.
