Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA News) - Malaysian students are the majority among the total of 6,000 foreign students studying at universities in Indonesia.

"Malaysian students are still a potential market for the institutions of higher learning in Indonesia," head of the Sub Directorate of Cooperation among Institutions of the National Education Ministry Purwanto Subroto said at the Indonesian Education Expo at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here on Sunday.

"This year we expected a 10-20 increase to 7,200 students," he said.

Some of the expo participants have applied for studying in Indonesia particularly in medicine, pharmacy, Islam and engineering.

The higher learning institutions in Indonesia which had drawn the biggest interest are Universias Indonesia (UI), Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB), Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Universitas Ahmad Dahlan, Universitas Diponegoro (Undip), Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas), Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Syarif Hidayatullah, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta, Universitas Padjajaran (Unpad), Universitas Sebelas Maret, Universitas Andalas (Unand), and Telcom Management Institute in Bandung.

The others are Universitas Mulawarman, Universitas Parahyangan, Universitas Riau, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh November, Universitas Mustopo Beragama, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, Politeknik Manufaktur Bandung and Universitas Pasundan. (N004)
