Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Central Java police have arrested six members of the Indonesia Islamic State (NII) movement for allegedly conducting activities against the legitimate government.

The six NII members arrested in Ungaran, Central Java, on Monday known by their initials as SM, TD, M, NB, MA and SP have been alleged to have conducted activities against the legitimate government, head of the National Police`s public relations division, Senior Commissioner Boy Rafli Amar, said here on Tuesday.

He said they have actually been on the list for a long time but they have now moved their activities to Central Java. He added they have been interrogated once by the West Java police.

"All the suspects were caught in two houses in different locations in Ungaran and they have allegedly conducted underground activities," he said.

One of the suspects, TD, is believed to hold a position as an NII governor for Central Java and Yogyakarta.

"The six are now still held at the Central Java police for further interrogation," he said.

Besides arresting them, the police have also confiscated documents and books believed to be used for NII activities from them.

One of the six suspects has been wanted by the police following police investigation into NII activities in West Java in 2008.

The police since 2008 have already handled 11 cases linked to NII activities and they have all been close to be brought to court. The cases have been handled by the West Java police in cooperation with the National Police Headquarters.

The 11 cases being handled involve 17 suspects namely Deni Ahmad Syarifudin Al Holid, Agus Gunawan Al Syarif, Mugito Al Idris, Oban bin Martodji, Adiat Maulana bin Jamil Al Iwan Aziz, Onip Al Sodikin bin Said Rizal Nurdin, Uden Abdullah bin Mukhtar Istandar Al Bunyamin Mushab, Dede Suparman Al Nurdin bin Dayat, Riezal Nurdin, Asep Sutarji bin Utom Al Haris, Suganda Al Hayatun bin Sarjo, Juhana Ramdan Sathori bin Satigi, Dedy Mulyadi bin Mansyur, Maman Suherman al Burhan bin Suhardi, Iping Sarifudin Al Yantami, Ugas Yulianto Al Faujan Muslim and Hajun Muliadi.

The charges against them including conducting activities against the legitimate government and deception on behalf of the organization.
