Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Money market analyst Farial Anwar said the ideal level of the rupiah value against the greenback was Rp8,500-Rp8,600 per US dollar.

He said here on Wednesday that at this range exporters and importers would still be able to carry out their import and export activities with profitable margins as long as Bank Indonesia (BI) was still willing to assist.

Farial, who is also director of the Currency Management Baord, said that at present the rupiah was weakening as foreign players were concerned over uncertain global growth, yet this situation would not last long.

He said that the rupiah would improve again because foreign players would remain to make investment in the domestic market which they thought would remain interesting.

Foreign investors are also still unwilling to enter the United States market which still adopts low interest policy and the European market which is now being plagued by debt crises.

Farial said that rupiah still had the chance to appreciate but in this case BI, the central bank, should monitor the movement of the rupiah value so that it would not develop into a widening range.

He said that other Asian markets such as in China, credit provision was being tightened in an effort to slow down fast economic growth.(*)
