Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Police have named Sumardi, the sender of coffins to a number of Jakarta media and corporate executives, a suspect in an "unpleasant act" case.

Sumardi, chief executive officer of marketing firm Buzz $ Co, Sumardy, had claimed he had done it merely to draw maximum public attention for a book on advertising he would soon launch.

"He has been named a suspect for having committed an unpleasant act," Adjunct Sr Com Johanson Simamora, chief of the Tanah Abang Police Precinct, Central Jakarta, said here on Tuesday.

Johanson said Sumardi was charged based on Article 335 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) on unpleasant deeds reported by members of the public.

Sumardi was named a suspect after the police grilled him for 1x24 hours since Monday noon.

Police did not detain Sumardi because his crime was punishable by a jail sentence of less than five years, but he was required to report to police twice a week.

Johanson said the case involving the writer of the book "Rest In Peace Advertising" was based on complaints from the coffins` recipients.

Unknown person(s) had sent coffins on Monday to Detik.com, Kompas.com, Okezone.com, The Jakarta Post, Tempo, ANTV and RCTI.

The coffins had a text message which read "Rest In Peace" and the courier service company was called "Rest In Peace Soon" with address at Unit 166, Asia Africa Street, Gate IX, Senayan, Jakarta 10270.

Presidential spokesman Julian Aldrin Pasha called on the police to investigate the sending of coffins to several mass media in Jakarta, to find out who the perpetrator(s) were.

Earlier, the Jakarta Police had urged mass media that had received coffin packages to report to the authorities.

"Please report to the police, if the packages have disturbed your privacy," Commissioner Yossie Prihambodo, a spokesman of the Jakarta police, said here Monday.

Yossie said the police would investigate the sending of the coffins to several media in Jakarta, to find out the perpetrators and their motives.

"Their motive could be anything but it`s perhaps exaggerated to see it as terror," he aid.***3***
