New Delhi (ANTARA News/IRNA-OANA) - The Foreign Correspondents Club of South Asia condemned the killing of journalists J Dey in Mumbai and Syed Saleem Shahzad in Pakistan and demanded the authorities to bring those responsible to justice.

`Both were providing a brave and vital service to their societies when they were killed for doing their jobs well,` the group which has nearly 500 journalists and photographers to cover South Asian developments as members said.

It said, `At the time of their deaths, each were working on stories of great importance: Jyotirmoy Dey had exposed Mumbai`s powerful oil mafia and money-launderers, Syed Saleem Shahzad had revealed how al-Qaeda militants had infiltrated the Pakistan Navy.`

Pointing to killing of journalists in the two countries over the last two decades, the club said, `It is not enough for officials and politicians to condemn these killings.

They must bring those responsible to justice, and recognise the essential role journalists perform.
