Ankara (ANTARA News/Xinhua-OANA) - Hollywood celebrity Angelina Jolie arrived in Turkey Friday to visit Syrians who fled the violence in their country and took shelter in southern Turkey, the semi- official Anatolia news agency reported.

A plane carrying Angelina Jolie, a goodwill ambassador of the United Nations refugees agency, landed at a local airport in the southern Hatay province Friday afternoon, Anatolia said, adding that the Turkish police had taken tight security measures before Jolie`s arrival.

Jolie will head to a tent site where about 9,700 Syrian refugees are staying near the Turkish border with Syria, officials were quoted as saying.

Earlier this week, Jolie made an application to the Turkish authorities to visit the Syrian people who crossed into Turkey to escape the clashes between the Syrian government forces and protesters.
