Padang, W Sumatra, June 22 (ANTARA News) - A 5.1-magnitude earthquake rocked Mentawai islands off the western coast of Sumatra island on Tuesday at 11.25 p.m.

The quake was centered 33 km northeast of Sipora island at a depth of 10 km, according to a report from the Meteorology, Geophysics and Climatology Board (BMKG).

The temblor prompted many people living in the West Sumatra provincial capital of Padang to rush outdoors.

Tuesday`s quake was the second to hit the islands in three days.

On Sunday at around 09.00 p.m., a quake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale jolted the islands.

No injuries or fatalities were reported in both quakes. (*)
