Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - The age of youth organization executives should not exceed 30 years as Law No 40/2009 restricts the age of youth organization executives at between 16 and 30 years, a minister said.

Youth and Sports Affairs Minister Andi Alfian Mallarangeng during the popularization of the law said here on Saturday that redefinition of the age restriction based on the law was the very hot topic during the deliberation.

"However, in many youth organizations the age restriction to 30 years is still far from reality. Therefore, youth organizations are called on to carry out regeneration so that the age restriction would have been fully implemented by 2013," he said.

He said that youth organizations whose executives exceed the age of 30 years would automatically become mass organizations.

Based on the results of the 2010 population census, the number of Indonesians at the age between 16 and 30 years reached 62 million.

He said that with the age redefinition it was expected that the active role of youths in the country`s leadership process would become optimal.

"It is expected that the youths would become more and more developed and take the opportunity to make use of programs to increase their creativity and that they would be able to lead the nation," Andi said.(*)
