Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA News) - An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale shook Ende, East Nusa Tenggara, at 11.47 pm on Monday.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics office said that the earthquake took place under the sea about 114 km southeast of Ende. But it did not trigger a tsunami.

Its epicenter was located at a depth of 140 m, 9.41 degrees southern latitude and 122.51 degrees eastern longitude or it lies 145 kilometers of the East Nusa Tenggara provincial capital Kupang, 243 kilometers southeast of Central Sulawesi, 251 kilometers northeast of Waingapu, and 1779 kilometers from Jakarta.

No immediate reports from the competent agencies on damage or casualties caused by the earthquake. (*)
