Bandung, West Java (ANTARA News) - More than 150 kites are currently being displayed at Istana Bunga Tennis Indoor Villa in Parongpon, Bandung, West Java, as part of the 2011 International Kite Festival.

The chief of the Kite Art Indonesia, Lianawati said in a statement received here on Saturday the exhibition would last a full month until July 30.

She said the activity was organized in cooperation with the Kite Art Indonesia (KAI) community, Tambatan Hati Tour Travel and Istana Bunga Villa as a pre-event of the International Kite Festival from July 13 to 17 in Katapang Doyong, Pangandaran Beach, in Ciamis, West Java.

"The event is a form of warming up activity before the Pangandaran International Kite Festival with the peak activities to happen on July 16 and 17," she said.

She said besides displaying various kinds of kites from the collection of KAI members the festival would also be highlighted by workshops on how to make kites and color them and others.

Lianawati said the festival was not only for community members but also for the general public.

"The general public can conduct activities together with community members. Even this is part of familiarization of our community and efforts to popularize kites," she said.

The tourism service in Yogyakarta, Central Java, meanwhile also plans to hold a National Kite Festival at Glagah Beach on July 9 to 10.

"Like before it will be attended by participants from across Indonesia, the organizing committee chairman, Wahyudi, said here on Saturday.

He said the activity has become an annual tourism activity in Yogyakarta.

He said a number of participants from Bandung, Semarang, Lampung, and Kediri have registered themselves.

He said he was optimistic the festival would be successful.
