Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Noted businessman and owner of Para business group Chairul Tanjung has predicted that the consumption sector would serve as a prima donna business field in the future.

"The growth and the welfare of the world population continue to increase so that their needs for various consumption products will continue to increase," Chairul Tanjung told a seminar here over the weekend.

He said that the number of population in India had reached 1.1 billion and would continue to increase. The same was true to China whose population number had also reached 1.3 billion.

The growth of the Indian population is faster than that of China so that it would surpass the number of China`s populations in the coming 20 years, he said.

In the meantime, he said, Indonesia`s population which has now reached over 230 million will also continues to increase. "The world`s populations increases extraordinarily. Indonesia itself experienced an annual population increase by four million," he added.

He said that the increase in population would be followed an increase in demand for welfare improvement.

Ahead, the world will face a serious problem in the field of food, energy and water. "In this condition there will be an extraordinary demand for consumption products," he said.

On the occasion, Chairul Tanjung, who is also chairman of the National Economic Committee said that the target set to be achieved through the Master Plan for Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesia`s Economic Development (MP3EI) was too low because Indonesia could achieve higher than that.

"If we make serious efforts we can achieve two folds of the target set for the 2025," Chairul Tanjung said.

Chairul said that in the MP3EI the government set a target to achieve a per capita income between 14,250 and 15,500 US dollars in 2025.

"The per capita income of the Indonesian people in 2010 had reached 3,000 US dollars," he said.

He said that if the state has reached a per capita income of 10,000 US dollars it would mean that the country had been included in the group of high-income nations.

Chairul who is owner of Para Group said that the government`s target of 15,500 US dollars could be achieved before 2025.

"This is a high income category, before 2025 Indonesia would already have an income per capita of 14,250 - 15,500 US dollars," he added.
