Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA News) - An explosion at Khilafiah Umar bin Khatab Islamic Boarding School in Bima district, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), on Monday killed a person, police said.

West Nusa Tenggara Police spokesman Adjunct Commissioner Sudjoko Aman said here on Tuesday that the dead victim was identified as Firdaus, the treasurer of the Islamic boarding school where the explosion occurred.

"The police obtain the information from the family of the victim that Firdaus was killed in the explosion," Sudjoko said after being permitted by NTB Police Public Relations Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Sukarman Husein.

Sudjoko said the family of the victim had fully let the case to the police to make further investigation.

But he added that the police had yet to conduct an investigation at the scene because they were not permitted by the management of the school.

He said the explosion occurred on Monday afternoon but today the police have yet to make the investigation into the explosive material and the damage.

Sudjoko said the police have so far alleged that the explosion at the Islamic boarding school came from a home-made bomb because the blast was so strong with a great cloud of smoke billowed out of the school.

According to him, the NTB police were still applying preventive and preemptive measures in their response to the explosion at the school.

But he said repressive measure would probably be taken if the Islamic boarding school continued to insist on not allowing the police to make investigation at the scene.

"If the school does not respect the preventive and preemptive measures, the police will take repressive measure as the last resort in accordance with the existing rules," he said.

He added that Sa`ban Abdurrahman (18), who was under an intensive questioning at NTB police office for his alleged involvement in the killing of Bolo-Bima police Brigadier Rokhmat on June 30, 2011, was one of the students of the Khilafiah Umar bin Khatab Islamic Boarding School.
