Washington (ANTARA News/AFP) - The State Department warned US nationals Tuesday against non-essential travel to eastern and northeastern regions of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

"Elements of the Congolese military, as well as rebel fighters, remain a security concern in eastern and northeastern DRC," the Department said in a statement.

"These armed groups... are known to pillage, steal vehicles, kidnap, rape, kill, and carry out military or paramilitary operations in which civilians are indiscriminately targeted," it added. (*)
