Palu, Central Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will question Democrat Party chairman Anas Urbaningrum if there is evidence he is involved in corruption, a KPK official said.

KPK member Moch Jasin said here on Wednesday the key to revealing the involvement of Anas and some other Democrat Party members was in the hands of Nazaruddin, the party`s former treasurer who is wanted as a corruption suspect but is now hiding overseas.

"So, Nazaruddin`s presence will be the best thing to make it easier for KPK to prove if what he has said is true," he said.

Jasin said there was no rule stating that the KPK may not question certain people. Anyone can be questioned so long as there is proof and information indicating the person`s involvement in a corruption case, he said.

He said Nazaruddin`s presence was important for making it easier for KPK to investigate people allegedly involved in the bribery case linked to a SEA Games Athletes Building project in Palembang, Sumatra.

"If he is here and says this and that person is involved, we will have proof that will make it easier for KPK to process it," he said.

Jasin said the KPK was still working to locate Nazaruddin."We have already coordinated with the police and the immigration office of the ministry of justice, the foreign ministry and overseas law enforcement agencies," he said.

He said team members from KPK and other offices had already left the country to pick up Nazaruddin. He however declined to tell where Nazaruddin was now.

Jasin said he knew public expectations in the corruption eradication efforts were high so that they always wanted everything done quickly.

He said the people wanted KPK to be able to arrest Nazaruddin and process those mentioned by him as being involved in his case.

"We wish it could be done quickly but it is not that easy to do it abroad. It is a long process," he said.

He said he hoped the problems faced by KPK could be overcome soon so that the public`s expectations could be met.
