Jakarta (ANTARA News) - National Resilience Institute (Lemhanas) Governor Budi Susilo Soepandji said there was no need yet to involve the military (TNI) in the fight against terrorism.

"For now it is enough to optimize the role of the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) and the police (in the effort)," he said at his office here on Monday.

He said TNI`s involvement in counter-terrorism efforts would be needed only if terrorism has become massive and is no longer impossible for civil apparatus and the police to deal with like in case of simultaneous attacks in several regions.

(In that case) "it isn`t impossible for civil agencies and the governor of Lemhanas to merely pray. They need to have weapons namely TNI," he said adding that TNI`s involvement should be the last resort.

He said although it was up and down conditions right now are still good and therefore there is no need yet to involve TNI.

"What is needed right now is merely a dialog so that hard power is not needed," he said.

Busi Susilo appreciates efforts taken by BNPT so far to overcome latest terrorism.

"However BNPT must not only conduct enforcement but also de-radicalism because terrorism problem is like a tip of an iceberg," he said.

He said they could ask for an advice from the TNI in view of its territorial experience.

He said they could also come to Lemhanas for inputs because Lemhanas also has experts from several universities that could be used to study the issue.
