Palangka Raya, C Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - Large and medium scale manufacturing industries in Central Kalimantan grew 13.12 percent in the second quarter of 2011 from a quarter earlier, an official said.

"The manufacturing industry is one of the sectors expected to play a key role in boosting development in Central Kalimantan. In the second quarter of 2011 it grew significantly compared to the first quarter," Head of the Central Kalimantan Statistics Office, Panusunan Siregar said here on Saturday.

In addition to contributing to the regional gross domestic product (PDRB), the manufacturing industry also played an important role in creating new jobs, he said.

He said the industrial sector contributed 8.42 percent of the province`s regional gross domestic product in the first quarter of 2011. Yet the province still relied on the agricultural, trade, hotel and restaurant and service sectors to achieve economic growth.(*)
