Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Umar Patek, the long wanted terror suspect, has admitted that he was the one who assembled the bombs that exploded in Bali in 2002 killing more than two hundred people.

"During preliminary questioning shortly after his arrival in Jakarta, Umar admitted that he was the one who assembled the bombs used in the first Bali bombings and Christmas eve bombings in 2000 together with Dr Azahari," the head of the National Police`s public relations division, Inspector General Anton Bachrul Alam, said here on Friday.

After the Bali bombings, Patek fled to the Philippines and later joined Dulmatin (who was eventually killed in a shootout), he said.

Anton said Umar Patek`s wife, Rukiyah alias Siti Zahra, was also questioned at the Kelapa Dua Mobile Brigade detention center for identity forgery.

Siti Zahra had become a Philippine citizen but she used an Indonesian passport when the couple went to Pakistan.

Umar Patek was caught in Pakistan and eventually deported to Indonesia. He is now being held at the Kelapa Dua Mobile Brigade detention center.
