Manado (ANTARA News) - Mt Suputan in Minahasa Selatan regency, SE Minahasa, North Sulawesi province, continued to erupt following its second eruption at 9.27 am local time.

"The first irruption broke out at 7.55 am, then stopped. And several hours later the second eruption takes place and continued up to 9.50 pm," head of Mt Gunung monitoring post in Maliku village in Minahasa Selatan regency Sandy Manengkey said in Tomohon on Sunday.

He said the volcanic material produced by the volcano only consisted of ash without glowing lava. The volcanic ash is then carried by the wind toward the west and estimated to fall in Amurang sub-district, Minahasa Selatan regency and surroundings.

"The highest eruption reached 1000 meters toward the west from the cauldron of Mt Soputan," he added.

Manengkey also said that this time the eruption was without hot clouds flowing up to several kilometers like what happened some time ago. Human settlements were still safe, as they are rather far from the mountain`s crater.

"But we hoped the people would still be catchful, although it still 6 kilometers away. We continued monitoring the volcanic activities for evaluation," he said. (*)
