Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Preparations for the Lebaran holiday exodus this year are better than that of last year but coordination should be improved, Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo said here on Monday.

"The preparations are better but the services and coordination of the team should be improved," the governor said, adding that the supporting facilities should also be upgraded.

Governor Fauzi Bowo made the statement when inspecting a Lebaran command post at the Kampung Rambutan bus terminal in East Jakarta on Monday.

The governor is responsible for coordinating the implementation of Lebaran holiday transportation for Jakarta residents.

He made the inspection in the field to obtain first hand information on preparations that had been made to give the best possible service to Lebaran holiday travelers.

According to the governor, the number of home-bound travelers this year was predicted to increase sharply seven days before Lebaran and two days after the festivity to mark the end of the fasting month.

To give better service to Jakarta residents returning to their respective home villages by bus, the city government had made the necessary special arrangements at four main and 10 auxiliary bus terminals.

He said all of designated terminals would have Lebaran command posts with road worthiness testing , health care , integrated security, urine testing facilities.

"All buses about to will leave those terminals will be checked for road worthiness, while their drivers will have to undergo an urine test," the governor said.
