They must even be treated like terrorists who are never given a remission. Corrupters would be glad if they were given sentence remissions,"
Yogyakarta (ANTARA News) - Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Chief Busyro Muqoddas said convicted corrupters did not need to be given nor did they deserve sentence remissions.

He made the statement here Tuesday when asked to comment on the issue after conducting Idul Fitri prayers. He said corrupters had caused huge financial losses to the state and hurt the poor in the country and therefore they must not be given sentence remissions.

"They must even be treated like terrorists who are never given a remission. Corrupters would be glad if they were given sentence remissions," he said.

Therefore, he said, the law on sentence remissions must be changed to make an exception for corrupters. "So what needs to be done now is changing the law," he said.

When asked on the meaning of Idul Fitri with regard to corruption eradication, Busryo said he hoped the event could make state officials return to their pure state so that they could manage the state based upon the spirit away from corrupt politics.

"The spirit of the state`s management must not be for the interests of political parties but for the interests of the whole people of Indonesia," he said while reminding that around 40 million people were still living under the poverty line in the country.

"Do not make the people even poorer because of political processes," he said. (*)
