Ankara (ANTARA News/Xinhua-OANA) - Two soldiers of the Turkish security forces were killed in an attack staged by members of the Kurdish Workers` Party (PKK) in eastern Turkey on Saturday, an official statement said.

The PKK opened fire at the Turkish security forces in the Geyiksuyu rural area in the Tunceli province, leaving the soldiers dead, said the statement issued by Tunceli governor`s office.

It added that with the support of the Turkish Air Forces, a large-scale operation to capture the PKK members was continuing in this region.

Listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union, the PKK took up arms in 1984 to create an ethnic homeland in southeastern Turkey. More than 40,000 people have been killed in conflicts involving the PKK during the past over two decades. (*)
