Manado, N Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - Police are investigating the cause of a fire at Malalayang bus terminal in the North Sulawesi provincial capital of Manado that ravaged at least 20 kiosks on Sunday.

"We need more time to investigate the cause of the fire," chief of the Malalayang police precinct Comr. Reino Bangkang said.

If the fire was caused by a short circuit police would cooperate with state electricity company PLN in investigating it, he said.

"But up till now police are still continuing their investigation to establish whether the fire was caused by a short circuit or exploding stove," he said.

The fire which broke out at 7.30 a.m. on Sunday also burned down a total of 14 rented houses near the bus terminal.

Spokesman of the Malalayang village administration Erol Onsu said earlier in the day that strong winds caused the fire to quickly burn down the kiosks and other buildings near the terminal.

"No injuries or fatalities are reported in the fire. Only around 20 kiosks and 14 rented houses caught fire," Onsu said.

At least six fire trucks were sent to the scene to put out the blaze. A number of military and police personnel and local people assisted the fire fighters in extinguishing the fire.

The kiosks consisted of food stalls, internet cafe, beauty parlor, workshop and warehouse, he said. (*)
