Batusangkar, West Sumatra (ANTARA News) - Japan`s Telecommunication Technology Committee (TTC) President Director Yuji Inoue is of the opinion that Tanahdatar district in West Sumatra can be a center of information technology (IT) in Sumatra Island.

"If the regional government is able to develop the program of Asia Pacific Telecommunity Japan 3 (APT-J3) and Fiber Optic, Tanahdatar will undeniably be a center of information technology in Sumatra," Inoue said here on Thursday.

He said the information technology has a strategic role in supporting all aspects and areas of life.

Inoue pointed out that application of information technology could improve the competitiveness and the progress of an area in a country.

Therefore he expressed hope that Tanahdatar district government could make a strategic plan for fiber optic network development to reach the entire work unit of village apparatus.

"With the connection of fiber optic network to every institution, the data entry for regional financial information systems will be more effective and efficient," Inoue said.

He admitted that Japan`s Telecommunication Technology Committee would assist Tanahdatar district by posting a number of its staffers for a month to develop fiber optic network in the area.

"We can do this to activate regional economy in Asia for the convenience to people`s lives," he said.

Meanwhile Tanahdatar District Head Shadiq Pasadigoe said fiber optic network information technology which started in 2009 has run well, especially its application in regional financial information system.
