Jakarta (ANTARA News) - A fire ravaged 45 houses on Jalan Kampung Gusti, North Jakarta on Thursday, leaving at least 600 people displaced.

The fire originated from one of the houses and later spread to other houses, spokesman for the North Jakarta Fire Department Rukiyat said.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.

But Rukiyat said he believed a short circuit from the second floor of the house had caused the fire.

A total of 26 fire trucks including 17 from North Jakarta, 1 from Central Jakarta and 2 from West Jakarta were sent to the scene. The fire could be put out three hours after it broke out.

The chief of neighborhood association 011, Dari, said the fire left around 600 people displaced. "We don`t know where to build temporary shelters for them." (*)
