Medan, N Sumatra (ANTARA News) - The rehabilitation and reconstruction of buildings damaged in Sept 6 earthquake in Pakpak Bharat district, North Sumatra, will cost an estimated Rp60 billion, a spokesman said.

The fund would be used to rehabilitate and reconstruct a number of buildings and public utilities, including 29 buildings in the Pakpak Bharat district administration office compounds and 43 school and hospital buildings, the head of the district administration`s public relations section, Kastro Manik said on Sunday.

The other buildings included 361 houses, two public health service posts, district head`s and deputy district head`s official houses, a subdistrict office, a vital statistics office, a mosque and a church, he said.

He said the district administration would soon apply for fund to the central and provincial governments to help finance the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the state buildings and public utilities including houses damaged in the quake.

Since the quake struck the area on Sept 6, the Pakpak Bharat District Disaster Mitigation Board had set up a number of command posts, evacuated and handled quake victims and met their logistic needs, he said.

The logistic assistance would be given to quake victims during the emergency response period which will end on Sept 13, he said.

The epicenter of the 6.7-magnitude quake that rocked part of Pakpak Bharat district on Sept 6 was located northeast of Singkil Baru, Singkil district, Aceh province.

The quake also destroyed a number of houses and infrastructure facilities and caused a landslide in other districts in North Sumatra including Dairi and Humbang Hasundutan.(*)
