"We have enough food reserves or stocks. What remains to be done is to distribute them," the minister said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Coordinating Minister for People`s Welfare Agung Laksono said he could assure people living in drought-affected regions in the country there were adequate food stocks for them.

"We have enough food reserves or stocks. What remains to be done is to distribute them," the minister said at the Presidential Palace on Wednesday.

He said that a number of regions in Indonesia were experiencing drought such as those in the northern part of Java, Yogyakarta, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

Agung said these regions were drought prone areas and were always hit by dry spells.

"We have ordered regional governments to take immediate steps and distribute rice and other foods need when a drought and food crisis took place," the minister said.

Chief Economic Minister Hatta Rajasa said meanwhile that the government has set aside Rp1.7 trillion to overcome drought which affected a number of regions in Indonesia.(*)
