Kupang (ANTARA News) - Vatican Ambassador to Indonesia Mgr Antonio Guido Filipazzi admires and appreciates religious harmony and tolerance in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Governor Frans Lebu Raya said here on Thursday.

"The Vatican envoy admires and appreciates the religious harmony and tolerance in the province and hopes that such an atmosphere will continue to be maintained," Lebu Raya said.

Vatican Ambassador to Indonesia Mgr Antonio Guido Filipazzi was in the East Nusa Tenggara provincial city of Kupang on Wednesday, Sept 14, 2011, to ordain 24 deacons into the Catholic priesthood at the Kupang diocese.

On the occasion, Governor Frans Lebu Raya reported to the Vatican envoy that interfaith relations and communication in East Nusa Tenggara were very good.

He said the people of different faiths in the province live in perfect harmony with mutual respect, and jointly kept and maintained security during religious holidays.

Lebu Raya explained that on Christmas for example, Muslim youths in the province were mobilized to ensure security while on Lebaran holidays, Christian youths were also mobilized to do the same.
