"I have come just to fulfill my obligation as a good citizen," Anas said upon arrival at the KPK building.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Ruling Democrat Party chief Anas Urbaningrum on Thursday met a summons from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for questioning on an alleged corruption case at the manpower and transmigration ministry.

"I have come just to fulfill my obligation as a good citizen," Anas said upon arrival at the KPK building at 11am for questioning as a witness.

Former Democrat Party treasurer Muhammad Nazaruddin who is currently being held as a corruption suspect, had said that Anas used to be one of the board members of PT Anugerah Nusantara, the subsidiary of Permai Group that won the bid for a project of the ministry of manpower and transmigration.

In connection with the alleged corruption case at the Solar Energy Power Project (PLTS) of the ministry of transmigration worth Rp8.9 billion, the KPK has already named Timas Ginting and Neneng Wahyuni, the wife of Nazaruddin, as suspects.

Neneng Wahyuni is now still at large while Timas Ginting has been put in detention.

At a press conference after the questioning Anas said that he knew nothing about the PLTS project.

"I do not know about the PLTS project at the ministry of manpower and transmigration. I only knew about it from the media and after being summoned for questioning about it," he said.

Anas also said in the questioning that lasted for two and a half hours he was only asked to give explanations in connection with the alleged corruption case at the PLTS project of the ministry of manpower and transmigration.

"I do not know Timas Ginting," he also said.

Anas said he had come to meet the KPK`s summons to smoothen the process of investigation and as an obligation that he must meet.

When asked about Anas`s future legal status KPK chief Busyro Muqqodas said at the Parliament Building here on Thursday that he could become a suspect, remain as a witness and also be free.

"I do not know because KPK has only questioned him once as a witness. It would all depend upon the results of the examinatinoand evidence," he said.

He said KPK examined someone based upon evidence and not others and it had always done it professionally.

Regarding evidence he said it varied from evidence for seeking explanations, for investigation and probe.

"Based on evidence he is now still being questioned as a witness," he said.

Busyro said KPK was serious when summoning someone for questionng. He said KPK certainly prepared materials seriously and carefully for use in the questioning like what it did when summoning Democrat Party politician Angelina Sondakh on Wednesday Sept (21).

He said KPK would not summon someone for questioning before it had complete information about a case.(*)
