Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta (ANTARA News) - The Gunung Kidul administration of Yogjakarta would build Drini beach in Saptosari sub-district as tourist destination like Tanah Lot in Bali.

Head of Gunung Kidul Culture and Tourism Agency Suryoaji said Drini beach has the same shape as Tanah Lot in Bali making it potential for development.

"In the middle of Drini beach there is an area that may attract tourists," said Suryoaji.

He said the district administration would develop Drini beach by increasing tourism facilities for playing beach volley ball and a culinary center.

Suryoaji said the administration would invite investors to develop the beach.

"Gunung Kidul needs investors because local financial resources are inadequate to develop the beach," He said.

He added that besides the investors, the administration has also tried to submit a budget to the Provincial Administration of the Special Territory of Yogyakarta (DIY) and the central government for the development of Drini beach.

According to Suryoaji, Drini beach needs to be developed to attract more tourists.

He said Drini beach cannot compete with Baron beach, which is favorite tourist destination.

"We think that lack of promotion and infrastructure to reach Drini beach has caused tourists to lose interest to go there ," he said.

Suryoaji said like Tanah Lot, the promotion of Drini beach could be a breakthrough in creasing the interest of tourists.

"We hope the development of Drini beach could be started on 2012 because several investors have expressed their interest," said Suryoaji.

Meanwhile, Regent of Gunung Kidul Badingah said he would enhance the potentials of the beaches around Gunung Kidul region to increase economic growth.

"We would develop Drini beach with the money of investors. Drini beach planned to become the Tanah Lot of Gunung Kidul," Badingah said.
