Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Saturday morning presided over a ceremony to mark Pancasila Sanctity Day at the Pancasila Sakti Monument in Lubang Buaya, East Jakarta.

The President acted as inspector of the ceremony with Indonesian Military (TNI) personnel, Pramuka (Scout) members and students, high-ranking officials including Vice President Boediono, cabinet ministers, state institution leaders, and foreign ambassadors, attending.

Preparations for the occasion had been made over the past few days.

The ceremony took place under tight security precautions of the police and military deployed around the Pancasila Sakti Monument area, including on major roads leading to Lubang Buaya.

The Pancasila Sanctity Day commemoration is held every year to commemorate the revolt of the Indonesian Communist Party (PKI) on September 30, 1965, marked among other things by the kidnapping of the seven army generals namely General Ahmad Yani, Major General Sutoyo, Lieutenant General MT. Haryono, Major General D.E. Pandjaitan, Lieutenant General S. Parman and others.

The aforementioned High Commissioned Officers had been killed and dumped into the well known pit Lubang Buaya on which the Pancasila Sakti Monument now stands.

On the following day, October 1, 1965, the National Armed Forces (TNI) succeeded in defeating the PKI revolt and recovered the bodies of the generals. (*)
