With the passing of the bill on intelligence, intelligence operations in Indonesia could be conducted in better ways as a clear legal corridor for them had now been provided.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The House of Representatives (DPR) passed the bills on intelligence and the Judicial Commission at a plenary session here on Tuesday.

"With the approval of all DPR members that were present two more bills have been passed by DPR," Priyo Budi Santoso who presided over the session said at the passing of the bills.

He said with the passing of the bill on intelligence, intelligence operations in Indonesia could be conducted in better ways as a clear legal corridor for them had now been provided.

He said he hoped with the implementation of the law, intelligence agencies and agents would become stronger and also careful so that they would no longer miss any information including about terrorist actions.

Regarding the passing of the bill on the Judicial Commission, Priyo said the new law was a revision of a previous law to strengthen the authority of the Judicial Commission (KY) as a supervisor of judges.

"The DPR revised the law on KY because it thinks the authority of KY needs to be strengthened," he said.

The Chief of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), Sutanto, welcomed the passing of the bill on intelligence that strengthens the legal corridor for intelligence operations and authority.

"With the passing of the bill on intelligence we hoped there will be strengthening of intelligence with certain corridor there respects democratic values, human rights and laws," he said.

The bill on intelligence was written based on the initiative of the DPR and has been discussed with inputs from various elements including academics, experts and state institutions.(*)
