Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Marine Resources and Fisheries Minister Sharif Cicip Sutardjo said he was committed to developing fishery industries as one of his main objectives as minister.

"Industrialization of fisheries will bring prosperity to the people," Cicip said in a written statement made available to ANTARA on Sunday.

The minister said that the industrialization of the fishery sector would boost fishery production and make fish processing industry a success.

He said that during his leadership, the marine resources and fisheries ministry would also continue to empower salt farmers in an effort to increase their salt production and improve its quality.

In an effort achieve the national salt self-sufficiency in 2014, his side will apply three strategies, among others, intensification through rehabilitation of smallholder`s salt production facilities and technological innovation.

Other strategy is revitalization of salt farmers` means and facilities and technology innovation through the use of addictive materials.

In order to realize the target, the ministry of marine resources and fisheries has decided nine districts as smallholder`s salt production centers, namely Indramayu, Cirebon, Pati, Rembang, Sampang, Sumenep, Pamekasan, Tuban and Negekeo.
