Serang, Banten (ANTARA News) - Ratu Atut Chosiyah-Rano Karno pair gained 2,136,035 or 49.64 percent of votes or the winning pair in the gubernatorial election which took place on October 22 as decided by the General Elections Commission (KPU).

The provincial KPU in its plenary meeting here on Sunday stipulated the Ratu Atut Chosiyah-Rano Karno pair who won the gubernatorial election.

Atut-Rano pair will lead the province for the 2012-2017 period, Banten KPU chairman Hambali said, adding that a total of 7,118,587 voters participated in the gubernatorial election.

Another pair with the running number two namely Wahidin Halim-Irna Narulita got 1,674,957 votes or 38.93 percent in the election.

Meanwhile, the pair with the running number three namely Jazuli Juwaini-Makmun Muzakki obtained 491,432 votes or 11.42 percent out of 4,302,424 valid votes.

The KPU plenary meeting was among others attended by Banten provincial police chief Brig.Gen. Eko Hadi Sutedjo, Banten military regional commander Col.(Inf) Joko Warsito, and four provincial KPU members namely Didi M Sudih, Nasrullah, Lukman Hakim and Agus Supriyatna.

The Wahidin Halim-Irna Narulita pair and Jazuli Juwaini-Makmun Muzakki pair did not sign recapitulation of the vote counting.

Ratu Atut, the incumbent governor and Rano Karno, the former film actor in the gubernatorial election were supported by Golkar Party and the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P).

Banten province shares borders with Jakarta and West Java province. (*)
