We do not have enough geography teachers and therefore many of our history teachers have been tasked to also teach geography,"
Pekanbaru, Riau (ANTARA News) - Riau province is short of more than 100 geography teachers for its schools, especially in remote regions, a provincial education official said.

"We do not have enough geography teachers and therefore many of our history teachers have been tasked to also teach geography," Hari Indra Putra, head of Riau province`s education office, said here Friday.

He said schools in remote areas in Riau province such as Rokan Hilir , Meranti, Rokan Hulu, and Kuantan Sengingi needed more geography teachers.

"According to information from our friends in the field, there is a dearth of geography teachers at schools in remote areas in Riau province and this condition has persisted for a long time," Heri said.

He said the shortage of geography teachers in Riau was due to the fact that universities in the province did not have geography in their curriculums. (*)
